You have a business blog. That’s good. Blogs are trusted sources of information and can help your site have more indexed pages which will help it rank higher in search engines. However, managing blog content can be difficult. Some people think that the more blog content you have, the better. That might not necessarily be true. You want to have high quality blog content.
What is high quality blog content?
High quality blog content will help educate and entertain your readers. It’s well-written and generally focuses on one keyword phrase per post. Keywords are used sparingly but successfully. You have an image to go along with your blog. Use headings and bullet points to make sure that your content is easy to skim. A vast majority of users admit to skimming content so they like subheadings and bulleted lists.
What high quality content is not?
When you’re managing blog content, you need to make sure that all of your posts are of high quality. You want to avoid posts that have no images, use too many keywords and content that is poorly written. Blog posts should be at least 500 words in length, preferably longer. However, you don’t want a blog that drones on and on needlessly just to make some content quota.
Go back and audit your blog
An important but often overlooked part of managing blog content is auditing your blog. You should look at the articles that you’ve already posted and see if they are worth keeping. Blog posts shouldn’t remain on your blog forever, especially if they’re not performing well. You should use your analytics to see if blog posts have received organic views in the past 90 days. If not, you will want to see if the blog post adds to your blog in any way. If it does, can you update it or add content to it and refresh it? If so, do so and then don’t forget to update the date and remake your blog content into something new. If not, deactivate the blog post. You want to have blog content that is important to your overall message and that performs for you. If it’s not performing, get rid of it.
You should not get so attached to your blog content that you’re afraid to retire it. It will not help you in search engines to have pages that aren’t performing for you. In fact, it can hurt you because it will decrease your domain authority.
You need to be consistent when writing your blog. Try to update your blog on the same day or days each week. We suggest at least one new blog post per week, two if you can manage it. The size of your blog is not as important as the quality of its content. We know we talk about quality content frequently on this blog, we do so because we believe that quality content is the most important ingredient to successful SEO and top search engine rankings.
